Anna Marie Lanzendorfer Jordan, a lifelong resident of Punxsutawney, passed away on March 18, 2018, at the age of 96 after suffering a stroke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Jordan, in 2000. Anna Marie was a 1939 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School. She then attended nursing school at Suburban General Hospital in Pittsburgh, graduating as a registered nurse. She worked at Suburban General Hospital as a nursing supervisor until enlisting in the Army Nursing Corps where she served in Japan during WWII, obtaining the rank of lieutenant. After the war Anna Marie returned to Punxsutawney and continued her nursing career at Adrian Hospital where she helped deliver many generations of Punxsutawney residents. She retired from Punxsutawney Area Hospital as director of nursing in 1987. Even in retirement Anna Marie continued her caring ways by helping family, friends and neighbors. She was an excellent cook and baker and enjoyed trying and sharing new recipes. Her delicious orange cookies will be missed by many friends and family. Anna Marie is survived by her brother, Joseph H. Lanzendorfer, and wife, Louise, of Feasterville, PA; her step-daughter, Joanna Jordan Dyson, and husband, Anthony, of Thornton, CO; nieces Cheri Lanzendorfer Miller, and husband, Gerald, of Novato, CA; Patricia Kelly and husband, John, of Bristol, PA; and her nephew, Daniel J. Lanzendorfer, and wife, Pamela, of Furlong, PA. At the time of her passing Anna Marie was the oldest member of the First English Lutheran Church. In 2017 her nephew established a scholarship fund in honor of Anna Marie to aid Punxsutawney High School students interested in pursuing a career in nursing. She was looking forward to meeting the first recipient to be awarded the scholarship in 2018. Friends will be received from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at the McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018, at the First English Lutheran Church with Pastor David Saylor officiating. Private interment will be in Circle Hill Cemetery.
