Bertha M. "Birdie" (Beck) Fletcher

Bertha M. “Birdie” Fletcher, 91, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Saturday January 14, 2023 at the DuBois Nursing Home.

She was born February 9, 1931 to Walter and Alice (Magle) Beck in Burkett Hollow, Jefferson County.

Birdie was a member of the Red Hat Society at Brookside Manor. She enjoyed attending bingo, bowling, painting, cooking and took great pride in raising her family.

She is survived by nine children, Allen Lewis (Connie), OH, Homer Callender, (Linda Umbaugh), Big Run, Mary Callender, Big Run, John Callender (June), Punxsutawney, Peggy Powers (George), Punxsutawney, Patty Wagner (Matt), Punxsutawney, Gerri Ferguson, Punxsutawney, Terri Hemsing (Frank), VA, Loretta Cassatt (Eric), OH, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, two sisters, Alice Vallies, Dorothy Baldwin, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two granddaughters, Camie Callender, Heather Smith and a sister, Hazel Pfeil, and four infant siblings.

Friends will be received on Wednesday from 3-7 PM at the McCabe Funeral Home Inc., 114 Maple Ave., Punxsutawney, PA 15767. A funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Devin Wintermyer officiating.

Interment will be at Ebenezer Cemetery.
