Betty Lou Depp, 98, of Punxsutawney, entered into rest Saturday, January 20, 2024 with her family by her side.
She was born December 24, 1925 to the late Norman S. and Lucille (VanBrunt) Scava in Punxsutawney.
Betty Lou was a lifetime active member of First English Lutheran Church in Punxsutawney. She served the church in various roles, singing in the choir and being involved in the music of the church. She once went with the choir on a trip to perform in Germany at various churches. She worked as an administrative assistant for West Penn AAA, then moving on to work for Bill Means of Bankers Life of Nebraska and retiring with Ameritas Financial in Punxsutawney. Betty Lou served on the Circle Hill Cemetery Board and volunteered at the Punxsutawney Historical and Genealogical Society, where she was presented with the Volunteer of the Year Award by Senator Chris Dush at a formal dinner at the local VFW in September 2018. Betty Lou also sang in a quartet with Adare and LeRoy Hetager and Alice Morris performing at weddings, churches and other events. She held her bridge club friends especially close to her heart calling themselves the Golden Girls. Betty Lou enjoyed cooking, gardening, taking care of her yard, singing and reading. She served as a Cub Scout leader when her boys were in Scouts. Most of all she loved spending time with and taking care of her family.
She is survived by her three sons; N. Richard “Rick” Depp, TX, Douglas Depp and wife Wendy, and Philip
“Flip” Depp and Peggy Young, all of Punxsutawney, three grandchildren; Scott Depp, and fiancé Tricia, Indiana, Becca Zinzella and husband Zeb, Canonsburg, and Alexander Depp and fiancé Alex, TX, ten great grandchildren; Ethan, Braden and Dylan Depp, Adele and Francesca Zinzella, Avary, Alyse and AJ Powell, and Keaton and Kennedy Young.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Miller Depp in 2004, a son James Michael “Mickey” Depp, and brother Norman Samuel “Skip” Scava.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 3-7 PM at the McCabe Funeral Home, Inc., 114 Maple Ave., Punxsutawney. A funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 AM at the First English Lutheran Church, 104 North Gilpin St., Punxsutawney with Rev. Tim Spence officiating.
Interment will take place at Circle Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Betty Lou Depp, to the First English Lutheran Church, 104 North Gilpin St., Punxsutawney, PA 15767
