David L. Hoover, 77, of Smicksburg, passed away with his family by his side on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Mulberry Square in Punxsutawney.
He was born in Punxsutawney on April 27, 1947, to John Q. and Elizabeth (Dormire) Hoover.
Dave was a very active lifetime member of the Hamilton United Methodist Church. He was a 1965 Graduate of the Punxsutawney Area High School, where he received the award of Class Hearts in his senior year. After high school he was drafted into the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. Dave was a lifelong farmer, heavy equipment operator for Doverspike Brother’s Coal Company and he also worked at London Farm Supply. Dave enjoyed hunting with the boys. He also enjoyed working on equipment and tractors and used his vast knowledge to always help his family and friends when needed always putting them before himself. He will be remembered as being very generous with both his time and his talents.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wanda (Wells) Hoover, Smicksburg, and his four children: Leonard L. Hoover (Mary), Jennifer G. Simmons (James), Jay W. Hoover (Mel), all of Punxsutawney and Julie Hoover Of Smicksburg, three grandsons, Matthew L. Hoover, Andrew R. Hoover, and Joseph D. Simmons, a sister Mary Ann Miller (Neal), VA, a brother John Curtis Hoover, OH, and a brother-in-law, Howard Wells of Elderton, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Ella Mae Marshall, a nephew David Marshall and a sister-in-law Donna Hoover.
Friends will be received on Monday from 2:00 until the time of service at 4:30 PM at the McCabe Funeral Home, Inc., 114 Maple Ave., Punxsutawney, PA 15767, with Pastor Edward Bach officiating.
Interment will take place at Hamilton Cemetery.
