Dorothea "Dee" Elizabeth (Ewing) Shields

Dorothea “Dee” Elizabeth Shields, 89, of Rochester Mills, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born October 20, 1935 to William Oakley and Priscilla (Donaldson) Ewing in Greene County, Pennsylvania.

Dee was a member of the Woodland Avenue Methodist Church. She was a 1954 graduate of the Punxsutawney Area High School. She married her high school sweetheart Ellery S. Shields, who preceded her in death on February 12, 2022. They were married almost 68 years. Dee was the Punxsutawney J.C. Penny Catalog Manager for many years. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest joys. She always made doing things special and they loved her dearly. Dee also enjoyed putting puzzles together in her later years.

She is survived by two children, a son, Clinton D. Shields and wife Sally, Rochester Mills, a daughter, Debbie Seliga and husband Tony, Punxsutawney, five grandchildren, Alan Seliga and wife Jessica, Joshua Shields, Amy Barrett and husband Nathan, Tonya Conrad and husband Matt, Adam Shields and wife Courtney, great grandchildren, Connor and Macie Shields, Theron and Holland Shields, Aria and Hailey Seliga, Emalyn, Maelee and Owen Conrad, and Lydee and Logan Barrett, a brother Harold Ewing, OH, and two brothers-in-law Daniel Shields, NY and Lorraine “Tex” Kunselman, Erie and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Ronald Ewing, and two sisters Leona Riethmiller and Alberta Kunselman.

Friends will be received on Friday from 2:00 PM until the time of service at 5:00 PM at the McCabe Funeral Home, Inc., 114 Maple Ave., Punxsutawney, PA 15767, with Pastor Edmond Bach officiating. 

Interment will take place at Mahoning Union Cemetery, Marchand.
