Emma J. Byers, 91, of Mahaffey, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Punxsutawney Area Hospital. Emma was born October 17, 1927 in Burnside, a daughter of the late Joseph and Faye (Sturgeon) Wolfe. She was the registrar for the Mahaffey area from 1982 until 2004. She also worked many years as a seamstress before retirement. Emma was a true matriarch of her family. She was the glue that held her family together. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Byers, three sons; Richard “Dick” Byers, Robert Byers and Dennis Byers, Sr., one grandson; Timothy Byers and two great grandsons; Mark Huey, Jr. and James Franklin Bissett. Seven brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her daughter; Carol Forborger and husband Jim of Ohio. Eight grandchildren; Darlene O'Halloran, Robert Byers, Douglas Byers and Tonya Bissett, James Forborger and Michele Johnston, Denna Greslick and Dennis Byers, Jr., nineteen grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. One brother; Robert Wolfe of Mahaffey, two sisters; Peg Shultz and husband Charles of Erie and Judy Witherite of New York. Daughter in law; Marguerite Byers and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at the Waldron Funeral Home in Mahaffey. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at the funeral home with Pastor Myron Wattenphul officiating. Interment will follow in Mahaffey Cemetery.
