Jane Elizabeth (Cook) Elling, 82, of Mahaffey, passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at the
Hillsdale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born June 21, 1934, in Mahaffey, a son of the late Alfred and Nellie (Kerr) Cook.
She was married to her husband of 64 years, John C. Elling, of Mahaffey, who preceded her in
death.
Jane was a reporter for the Clearfield Progress for many years. Her weekly historical articles
called “Sketches in Time”, with over 1,000 in print, were especially well known and recognized.
Jane was also a past member of the Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Authority,
Clearfield County Bicentennial Steering Committee, the Clearfield County Historical Society
Board of Directors, Clearfield County Board of Assistance, and a Member of the Daughters of
the American Revolution.
Jane is survived by her sons, Frank and friend Carol von Neudeck, of Indiana, PA; John and
Karen Elling, of Phoenix, AZ; and David and Julie Elling, of Washington, PA.; a brother David
and Adele Cook; 12 grandchildren: Ryan, Cory, Jessica, Josh, Frankie, Jamie, Rebecca, John
Kenneth, Jordan, Delaney, Rylee and Rayne; 11 great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Geoff and
Maryann Seacrist, of Brookville, PA.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Seacrist
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday at the
Waldron Funeral Home, Mahaffey. Pastor Myron Wattenphul will officiate.
