John A. Frantz, 76, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born December 2, 1946 to the late Charles and Twila (Siple) Frantz in Punxsutawney.
John was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the United States Army. Most recently he attended the Canoe Ridge Church of God. He was a member of the Rossiter American Legion. John was an active member of the Jefferson County Veteran’s Honor Guard. He made every attempt to attend every service at which the guard was asked to perform honors. He was one of 13 children in his family. John enjoyed people; making friends wherever he went. John would joke around with his family just to make them laugh. He enjoyed fishing, mowing his lawn and attending gun raffles, but most of all he loved his family and telling people about God.
He is survived by his wife Margaret “Marge” Frantz, Punxsutawney, two daughters, Kelly L. Maine and husband Michael, New Castle, Ametrine “Amy” Rei, (Ben), Homer City, three grandchildren; Sicily K. Maine (Elijah) and Abbey and Joseph Skoff-Rei, surviving brothers and sisters; Helen Ramsell, OH, Bud Frantz, Niagara Falls, Norma Smith, Punxsutawney, Lois Spitz and husband Tom, Reynoldsville, and Kathy Ecelbarger and husband George, Punxsutawney, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings; twin sister, Joan Peace, Dot Payne, Margaret Beck, Alma Fye, Carol Mills, and a brother Larry Frantz.
Friends will be received on Friday from 1-3:00 PM and 4:00 PM until the time of service at 6:00 PM at the McCabe Funeral Home Inc., 114 Maple Avenue, Punxsutawney, PA 15767 with Pastor Tom Brink officiating. Military Honors will be performed by the Jefferson County Veteran’s Honor Guard.
