John F. Haire

John F. “Jack” Haire, 85, of Punxsutawney passed away on August 6, 2024. Jack was born on June 23, 1939 to Calvin F. and Martha (Richardson) Haire in Punxsutawney.

After graduating from Punxsutawney Area High School, he enlisted and served in the United States Air Force and played volleyball for the USAF team. He then worked as a lineman and later foreman at Penelec until his retirement in 1994. 

In his younger years, Jack played softball in Punxsy and was a Little League coach. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed travelling, biking, bowling and he loved watching his grandchildren play sports. As a loving husband, father, Pop Pop and friend, his true joy was spending time with his family and friends. He was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church of Punxsutawney and the Elks.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Bill Haire and his sister Betty Lou (Haire) Burger.

Jack is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carole M. (McMeans) Haire, daughters Jody H. Barton (Bill) of Bellefonte and Julie Haire (Harry Hufford) of Tyrone, grandchildren Cassie Orndorff (Kevin), Zach (Maria) Barton all of Bellefonte and Skylar Hetrick of Philadelphia, and great grandchildren Kevin, Kennedy and Kolton Orndorff.

Services are private and have been entrusted to McCabe Funeral Home, Inc., 114 Maple Ave., Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
