Kathleen "Kathi" D. Cessna, 71 of Punxsutawney, passed away on Thursday, May 20th, 2021 at Penn Highlands Dubois Hospital. She went home to be with her Lord following unexpected complications from heart surgery.
She was born December 19, 1949, to Augustus C. and Evelyn (Kramer) Dougherty, in Punxsutawney.
Kathi graduated from Clarion University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. She furthered her education in 1997 with an Associate in Science degree from Penn State university with a focus on human development and family studies. Her associate degree was especially meaningful to her as she shared the graduation stage with her daughter, Keri K. (Cessna) Isenberg. Kathi taught and worked with children her entire life and never met a child she didn’t love.
She attended the Punxsutawney Presbyterian Church where she was an active member for 50 years. Her involvement in the church included being a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, and head of Christian education. She was also instrumental in preparing "flight bags" which provided patients and loved ones with comfort items while being transported between hospitals.
Kathi was the foundation on which her family was built. She loved her family beyond measure and was loved in kind. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who was happiest when surrounded by family. She loved baking and cooking for her family. She was the last to take a seat at the table, making sure everyone had everything they needed and most definitely, making sure no one ever left hungry.
Vibrant and energetic, Kathi enjoyed life. Making others happy made her happy. Kathi enjoyed her garden, her flowers, reading and relaxing with Richard and their four cats.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Richard B. Cessna, of Punxsutawney, whom she married on December 26th, 1970. A daughter, Keri K. Isenberg and husband Matt, Reynoldsville, a son, James R.
