Nellie Knopick, 96, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at her home with her family by her side.
She was born September 26, 1927 to Michael and Anna Semuskie in Iselin, Indiana county.
She married John Knopick, November 13, 1954 in Iselin, PA
Nellie was a devoted active member of Ss. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Punxsutawney where she was active in Alter Rosary Society and the Ladies Guild. She was always willing to help at the church where she was needed, especially with festivals and fundraisers. She worked for the Punxsutawney Area Schools as a study hall monitor and teachers aid for 20 years. Nellie also volunteered at Camp Friendship.
Her greatest joy was her family.
She is survived by her three children; John M. Knopick, (Karen), Anna M. Rugh (Dick), and Richard N. Knopick, (Rebecca), all of Punxsutawney, four grandchildren; Alan Rugh (Courtney), Walkersville, MD, Darin Rugh (Nichole), Punxsutawney, Danielle Botzman (Gunther), Clearfield, and Mason Knopick, Punxsutawney, who held a very special place in her heart, five great grandchildren; Blake Rugh, Grant Rugh, Mackenzie Rugh, Jamison Rugh, and Emmory Modzel, and she will be forever known as “Aunt Nellie” by her many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John Knopick in September 15, 1989, three sisters; Mary Acevedo, Katherine Koerber, and Jenny Kozak, and three brothers, Stanley, Alex, and Tony Semuskie.
Nellie was the last surviving aunt of the Knopick and Semuskie families.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the Panachida service at 11:00 AM at the McCabe Funeral Home, Inc., 114 Maple Ave., Punxsutawney, PA 15767. A funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday at 12:00 PM at Ss. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, 714 Sutton St., Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
In lieu of flowers, in memory of Nellie, donations may be made to the Ss. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Window Replacement Fund, 714 Sutton St., Punxsutawney, PA 15767 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
