Robert Allen Bishop, Sr.

Robert Allen Bishop, Sr. of Lakeland, FL, age 86, died at home on Thursday, June 15, 2023.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Jean C. (Curry) Bishop and his two sons Robert (Joan) Bishop, Jr., of Fairfax, VA and Patrick (Ann Marie) Bishop of Glen Allen, VA.
Bob was the son of the late Harry and Ruth Bishop of Punxsutawney, PA and brother of surviving siblings; Carl “Ky” (Joy) Bishop, Patty (Budd) Drummond, and Cheryl Ryen. He was preceded in death by siblings; Margaret “Vy” Bortnyik, Harry “June” Bishop, Don Bishop, Joanne Bishop, and Dennis Bishop.
He was a dear “Pappy” to surviving grandchildren; Brooke (Tyler) Ohnmeis, Bailey Bishop, Beri Bishop, Bonnibelle Bishop, and Zachariah “Zach” Bishop. He is also known as “Uncle Bob” to countless surviving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Born in Punxsutawney, PA, Bob graduated from Punxsutawney High School in 1954. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1961 and was in the Reserves until 1964.  After returning from military service, Bob married Jean Curry in 1964. Together they co-owned and operated the Lightner & Bishop General Store in Mahaffey, PA. Bob served as a rural postman for the U.S. Postal Service in Mahaffey, PA for 30+ years. He also proudly served on the Mahaffey Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance as an EMT. After relocating to Lakeland, FL, Bob never gave up his passion for his favorite hometown sports teams. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins watching all of the games when they were broadcast in FL. Bob could be found golfing, gardening, and feeding the turtles. On most Mondays, Bob would volunteer at weekly BINGO at Faith Lutheran Church, where he and Jean have been long-time members.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Canoe Ridge Church of God, 3827 Church Road, Rossiter, PA  15772, on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 1pm.
A second Celebration of Life will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Lakeland, FL at a later date.
