Rose Marie (Bevak) Shambelan, 89, of Punxsutawney, passed away March 17th at Christ the King Manor in DuBois. She was born May 4th, 1935 in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Patsy & Ruby (Sabarich) Bevak. She married Charles Shambelan, a State Police trooper, on May 4th, 1963 at St. Adrian Church in Delancey. He preceded her in death in 1997.
A devout Catholic, Rose was a graduate of St. Adrian Catholic High School, and a member of Saints Cosmas and Damian Church in Punxsutawney. There she was a eucharistic minister and frequently sang with the choir. Rose regularly assisted at the school cafeteria and at the annual church festival. She was also a volunteer at the American Red Cross.
After retiring from Best Vending, Rose went on to work for many years as a greeter at Walmart. Her kind smile and friendly demeanor will be warmly remembered by all the lives she touched.
Rose is survived by two children; Charles Shambelan, Jr. (Lisa) of Newtown, CT and Lisa Shambelan-Buck (Robert) of Mullica Hill, NJ, four grandchildren; CJ Shambelan of Eugene, OR and Kayleigh Shambelan of Cary, NC and Carly and Reilly Shaup of Mullica Hill, NJ and her brother, Samuel (Sandra) Bevak of Punxsutawney.
In addition to her parents and husband, Rose was also preceded in death by her beloved sister, Mary (Felix) in 2013.
Friends will be received on Thursday March 20th from 3-7 PM at the McCabe Funeral Home, Inc., 114 Maple Ave., Punxsutawney, PA. Praying of the Rosary will be recited by the family at 5:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday March 21st at 11am at Saints Cosmas and Damian Church, 616 W. Mahoning St., Punxsutawney, PA with Msgr. Joseph Ricardo and Msgr. Charles Kaza as co-celebrants. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery beside her husband.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Rose’s name to Christ the King Manor, 1100 W. Long Ave., DuBois, PA.
