Samuel J. Ishman, 82, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022 at Indiana Regional Medical Center.
He was born April 12, 1940 to the late Walter D. and Ruth E. (Cochran) Ishman in Punxsutawney.
Sam was a peace time veteran, serving with the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was employed by T.W. Phillips for 42 years as an equipment operator and serving as the Union Secretary for 21 of those years before his retirement. He was a member of the Farmers Union and the Jefferson County Farm Bureau. Sam loved farming. He farmed his farm which has been in the family for over 150 years. If he wasn’t farming you could find him tinkering around in his shed. He always had a ruler, soap stone and a pocket knife with him.
He is survived by his wife Carole (Peace) Ishman, whom he married May 29, 1965. They enjoyed 57 years together. Sam is also survived by his daughter, Joanne C. Stamler and husband Keith; his two sons, Michael J. Ishman and wife Robin, Brian C. Ishman and wife Colleen, all of Punxsutawney; five grandchildren, Ashley Klohr, Allison, Dylan, Derek and Brandon Ishman; three brothers and two sisters: David A. Ishman, Punxsutawney, Edna M. Wray and husband David, Worthington, Catherine C. Ondo, Indiana, Jacob A. Ishman, Punxsutawney, Philip I. Ishman, Punxsutawney, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother Michael R. Ishman.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the McCabe Funeral Home Inc., 114 Maple Ave., Punxsutawney, PA 15767. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Lakelawn Memorial Park, Reynoldsville, PA
