Shirley J. Wright

Shirley J. Wright, 87, of Rochester Mills, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at home with her family by her side.

She was born on March 22, 1937, to Thomas and Zora (Reams) Horner in Punxsutawney.

Shirley graduated from Punxsutawney Area High School in the class of ‘55 before marrying her late husband Ivan C. Wright. Shirley started selling sweet corn door to door in Punxsutawney in the late 1970’s. In the mid 80’s she started growing strawberries- that’s when produce sales really took off. Shortly after that more and more produce items were added to her offerings. For over 35 years, Shirley could be found at the Pine Valley Farms produce truck at the Punxsutawney Plaza six days a week, greeting customers with a cheerful smile. She loved many things, but most of all she loved her family. 

Shirley is survived by two sons, Carl I. Wright (Leslie) and Jeffrey L. Wright (Genny) of Rochester Mills; a daughter, Yvonne S. States (Ronald) of Rossiter; one brother, Joe Horner (Bernadette) of Punxsutawney; one sister, Jane Horner of Punxsutawney; a brother-in-law, Joseph Bell of Erie; four grandchildren, Luke States (Ashley), Kegan Wright (Amanda), Olivia Wright, and Jenna Wright of Rochester Mills; seven great-grandchildren, Abbi States, Ryeley States, Kashen States, Culan States, Conner Wright, Evie Wright, and Ian Wright of Rochester Mills; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Elva Curry, Bessie Whitsell, Ruth Laford, Maeretta Bell, and infant Avanell Horner.

Friends and family will be received on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at McCabe Funeral Home, Inc., 114 Maple Avenue, Punxsutawney, PA with Pastor Matt Lantz officiating.

Interment will take place at Rowley Cemetery Hillsdale.
