William A. "Bill" Smith, 90 of Punxsutawney, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Smith was born January 27, 1927 in Smithville, a son of the late Dallas E. and Margaret A. (Elbel) Smith.
He was an Assistant Superintendent at Smithport United Methodist Church and a Sunday School Teacher for 30 years. He was also a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater during the occupation of Japan. He was a Past Master of the John W. Jenks Lodge #534, a member of the Coudersport Consistory, a member of the American Legion in Glen Campbell, Supervisor and Treasurer of Banks Township for many years, owner and operator of Smith's Body Shop in Smithville. He retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportion where he was a certified inspector.
He is survived by two daughters; Cheryl Staron (Dan) of Ohio, Cathy Mauk (Dale) of Punxsutawney, two brothers; Richard Smith of Rossiter, Ronald (Irene) Smith of Glen Campbell, one sister; Imogene Huff of Glen Campbell, five grandchildren; Rhonda Hudak (Steve), Todd Staron, Justin Mauk (Laurie), Scott Staron (Tara), Megan Baughman (Nick) six great-grandchildren; AudreyAnna Mauk, Liam Staron, Elizabeth Mauk, Ema Hudak, Theo Staron, Zoe Hudak, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Thelma F. Austin, he is preceded in death by one brother; Harold E. Smith, and one infant sister; Norma Jane Smith.
Friends will be received from 1-4 pm on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney where a funeral service will follow at 4 pm.
Interment in Burnside Cemetery will be private.
