William T. Thorp

William Truman Thorp, 92, of Hepburnia died Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at his residence. 

Born August 17, 1932, in Grampian, he was the son of Russell Kirk and Blanche Marie (Spencer) Thorp. 

He was a lifetime coal miner having worked for Hepburnia Coal Company and eventually owning Penn-Grampian Coal Company and BBC Coal Company. He was a member of the West Branch Friends Meeting in Grampian. He enjoyed playing golf and working in his wood shop where he made numerous tables for friends and family. On March 21, 1953, he married Joan A. Neeper, who preceded him in death. Together they had 5 children.

Surviving are four sons, David ‘Jim’ and wife Tracy of Bellefonte, Chris and wife Paula, Gary and wife Shirley, both of Grampian and Ron and wife Lisa of Clearfield along with 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, a brother, Richard ‘Dick’ Thorp and a sister, Patricia Anderson. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Those who knew him will remember his ability to colorfully express any situation.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by son, Randy, a daughter, Kathy, brothers Kirk S., Corliss and Kenneth Glenn Thorp and sisters Nellie Kester, Beatrice Currier, Mona Parsons, Jane Ogden.

Graveside services will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made to either 365 Hospice, 115 S. Main Street, Carrolltown, PA 15722 or the West Branch Friends Cemetery, 207 S. 3rd Street, Clearfield, PA, 16830 where he served as a committee member for many years.

The Waldron Funeral Home of Mahaffey has been entrusted with the arrangements.
